Who is CPNI?
What is PAT?
CPNI's flagship product line is the Phone Authorized Transfer (PAT) family of products. PAT products are global, bank-branded mobile solutions that allow people to instantly send money, make payments or access banking services using a mobile phone. The PAT software and payment messaging network empowers banks to compete against other payment providers while leveraging existing accounts, security policies and settlement channels. PAT solutions provide an inexpensive and secure method of conducting transactions in any language, on any service provider’s network, anywhere in the world. PAT products allow for financial transactions to occur without the need to input personal information, such as credit card or bank account number.
Are PAT solutions designed for proximity payments?
PAT solutions are designed for remote payments because these provide the most revenue for banks, unlike proximity payments which cannibalize revenue from existing electronic channels such as credit cards and debit cards.
Does the phone being used for money transfer or payment require any special features?
No, a standard mobile phone can be used.
Is PAT a money transfer system?
PAT solutions do not actually transfer money from one bank account to another but rather provide banks with all of the instructions required to perform the transfer. Much of the inconvenience and time required at the front end is eliminated for both the customer and the financial institution. PAT solutions leverage existing anti-money laundering, clearing and settlement processes employed by financial institutions.
How does the registration process work?
The registration process is performed by the financial institution as part of the financial institution's Customer Service Interactions module. Banks can choose to register their customers through existing online banking portals, through other channels such as call centers, branches and ATM’s, and by sending the customer an MMS or SMS.
What information does the sender have to provide?
For transfers between PAT customers:
- Recipient’s telephone number
- Selection of source account
During every transaction:
- The recipient’s telephone number is validated
- The recipient’s name and telephone number are displayed back to the user
- The user must confirm the name and telephone number
PATsend allows customers to transfer money to people who are not registered with the system and to people whose bank is not yet a member of the PAT network.
How do PAT solutions provide confirmation of a transaction to the receiver?
Confirmation of the money transfer is provided to both the sender and receiver via SMS or e-mail.
