CPNI Extends Access to Mobile Purchases

Introduces PATbuy™ Innovative Mobile Payment Solution

New offering increases banks’ fee revenue by allowing their customers to purchase goods and services via a mobile phone. With PATbuy, bank customers can now make mobile payments and purchases worldwide knowing only the merchant’s phone number.

TORONTO, Canada, October 1, 2007 – CPNI Inc. (CPNI), an IBM Business Partner, today announced PATbuy, an innovative mobile solution that allows bank customers to make merchant purchases with a mobile phone. PATbuy enhances CPNI’s Phone Authorized Transfer™ (PAT™) mobile person-to-person payment solution, PATsend™.

PATbuy drives increased transaction revenue for banks by giving their customers access to an entirely new and convenient method of making purchases. Participating merchants are identified by their phone number.

PAT provides a bank-branded, global solution for remote payments, purchases and transfers allowing banks to leverage their existing assets. The PATbuy and PATsend offerings feature global mobile payment message routing which enables bank customers to make payments, purchases or transfers to any individual, merchant or organization via their mobile phone. Consumers use an application downloaded to their phone or an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system. PAT empowers banks to compete with 3rd party payment providers, generate new fee income, decrease processing costs and attract new customers.

To make purchases, consumers simply provide the merchant’s telephone number, select an account or credit card and enter the amount of the transaction on an easy to use interface. Merchants that are frequent recipients can be saved as favorites. Both sender and recipient receive a SMS and/or email transaction confirmation. PATbuy leverages the same mechanism and recipient identification (phone number) as PATsend.

PATbuy
  • Remote movie ticket purchase
  • Prepaid mobile top-up from your phone
  • Transit pass renewal
  • Web purchases
    PATsend
  • Parents sending money to students
  • Splitting the restaurant bill
  • “Social Money”
  • International Remittances

CPNI provides merchants with the ability to reach consumers through a merchant gateway to the PATnet™ mobile payments network. This gives merchants a single integration point and a simple interface to leverage their existing business and eCommerce processes. PATbuy significantly reduces implementation time and cost for the merchant. Once a merchant is connected, customers of any participating financial institution have access to them. Consumers have access to both PATbuy and PATsend from the same mobile application.

As a bank-branded service, PATbuy engenders trust from consumers since they are using a product offered by their own bank. Consumers have no need to download a separate mobile application for each merchant. PATbuy addresses an unlimited number of participating merchants.

“PATbuy provides convenience and value for each participant in the mobile payments chain”, comments Patrick Bird, president and CEO of CPNI Inc. “This solution reflects our commitment to provide banks with the tools they need to defend their payments franchise, compete against third party payment providers and grow their mobile payments offering. Our next product, PATbank™, will provide easy mobile access to banking services.”

The PAT family of solutions makes it easy for banks to accelerate the number of mobile transactions performed by their customers by giving these customers access to a virtually unlimited number of people and merchants to whom they can send money.
