MANAGER OF SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT
CPNI Inc. is a technology startup firm providing application software and associated services to the financial industry, with a focus on Mobile Payments. Our technology is network-aware and has server and mobile phone components. Our flagship product facilitates money transfer services over the telephone, in a secured manner, and from anywhere in the world.
We are seeking top candidates for the position of a hands-on Agile Software Manager to Lead and Mentor a Team of Java Software Developers. The position is of prime importance to the company; the selected candidate will be responsible for development of new products or extensions of existing products. The Manager of Software Development will receive specifications from the Product Management Team and translate them into software fully and thoroughly QA tested and delivered to the Operations Team.
Working from our Head Office in Toronto, the position will require occasional international travel.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coaching and leading the development team in agile methodologies
- Mentor in object oriented design & principles
- Manage, lead and expand a team composed of developers and testers working in a highly collaborative and interactive agile environment
- Facilitate team activities like iteration and release meetings, stand-ups, retrospectives, etc.
- Interact with Product Management Team to understand the business strategies and initiatives, short- and long-term priorities, in order to make effective trade-offs and decisions
- Interact with Operations Team to deliver maintainable software for live environments
- Provide high level estimates under uncertain conditions
- Proactively manage progress and status of project deliverables
- Ensure high quality results and maintain software in a constant “ready-to-release” condition
- Help the team to build the best solution that satisfies business requirements
- Help the team to consistently and constantly strive for process improvements
- Assist the team in refining tools, technologies, practices, etc. Actively scout for advancements at all levels
- Communicate project status and team accomplishments
- Ensure team individuals growth and conduct yearly reviews
Qualifications
- Extensive experience with Java, J2ME, JUnit, Fitnesse, JMS, EJB, Web Services, Web Applications, Hibernate
- Thorough understanding of the Object Oriented Paradigm including OO design principles and patterns
- B.S. Degree in Computer Science or related field
- 10+ years experience, including hands on experience as an object-oriented developer building object oriented solutions
- 5+ years of experience in team management/leadership roles
- Current responsibility to manage an existing software development team building large, high volume solutions using J2EE technologies
- A SCRUM-Master certification, XP-coach, or other experience with agile methods is necessary, complemented with software engineering knowledge
- Effective experience related to testing in agile environments, ranging from TDD to Customer Acceptance Testing
- Strong technical and non-technical communication skills: familiarity with presenting and explaining technical concepts to a variety of audiences
- Experience working with company executives, shareholders, and directors an asset
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills
